Eh La Bas - Dr. John - Nawlinz Dis Dat Or Dudda (CD, Album)

 · D. Margolis. out of 5 stars. You can't go wrong with Dr. John! Reviewed in the United States on J. Verified Purchase. I'll listen to Dr. John any time. That said, this is not his very best New Orleans-themed album. For that I'd vote for "Gumbo", his early 70's classic/5(44).

N'Awlinz Dis, Dat, or D'Udda by Dr John Mac Rebennack took his stage name from the voodoo healer Dr. John and became a '70s pop star by recasting New Orleans's myth and music in his own psychedelic image. At 63, he's again revamped the Crescent City sound, minus the acid-trip trappings, for his best album in decades/5(44).

Dr. John is oh, so hip—or at least he tries to be. His latest "voodoo" album, N'Awlinz Dis Dat or D'udda, a tribute to the drummers of New Orleans, features linear notes expounding on the various "bippin'" "mo" and "dere it t-i-is" talent of well-known players offering their takes on things "down yonder."It's a generally pleasing album held together by a huge and diverse collection of guests.

  1.  · N'Awlinz: Dis Dat or d'Udda is a very good record, but it could have been a great one. One has to wonder if the idea of having all these high-profile guest vocalists was Dr. John's, Blue Note's, or producer Stewart Levine's, in order to follow the 21st century trendiness of having "celebrity" guests on a session. This is Mac Rebennack's homeboy album, a tribute to his city and its players/10().
